China Approves Six New Food-Contact Substances

China’s National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) approved six new food-contact substances on March 26, 2018. The new substances are shown in the chart below.

Polymer of isophthalic acid, maleic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, phosphoric acid, trimethylol propane and 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol;

Polymer of isophthalic acid and terephthalic acid, adipic acid, trimethylol propane, 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol and ethylene glycol;

These administrative approvals now permit the lawful marketing in China of these food-contact substances for the referenced food-contact applications.  These approvals will eventually be incorporated into the relevant Food Safety Standards upon their revision.  For example, the additive approvals will be added to China's GB 9685 Food Safety Standard on the Uses of Additives in Food-Contact Materials and Articles
