Japan Announces Comment Period on Amendment to Table 2 of Positive List

Japan

The Japan Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA) has announced a public comment period concerning an amendment to Table 2 (Additives) of Japan’s Positive List (PL). (For background information on Japan’s PL, see the Packaginglaw.com article, A Move to Mandatory: Japan Finalizes its Positive List for “Synthetic Resins”.) Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) announced a reorganization of the PL on November 30, 2023, with the changes to take place on June 1, 2025.

An English version of the proposed amendment to Table 2 can be found here. The amendment revises the dose levels of certain additives within Table 2 that were published on November 30, 2023, and adds some substances to Table 2. (MHLW was not able to finish the reviews of those substances previously.)

The comment period is open until June 22, 2024 (Japanese time), and comments must be submitted in Japanese.
