FDA Building

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on July 11, 2022, that it has filed a food additive petition proposing that the food additive regulations be amended to remove or restrict authorization for the use of bisphenol A (BPA) in food contact applications. The petition was initially submitted in January 2022 by the Environmental Defense Fund and several other groups and individuals and resubmitted in April with supplemental data.

FDA requested that comments, including additional scientific data, on the petition be submitted by September 9, 2022.
