Denmark Draft Order on Registration of Nanomaterials Excludes Food Packaging

Denmark presented a Draft Order to the European Commission covering the registration of products containing nanomaterials. Food-contact materials are excluded from the registration requirement.

The Order, which Denmark cannot adopt until the completion of the review period on February 6, 2014, requires manufacturers to report products made in or imported into Denmark that contain nanomaterials. Information from the reports will be compiled in a nano product database.

Along with the Order, the government released an Impact Assessment that includes a list of products that may contain nanomaterials. The list includes paint, coatings, building materials, sports equipment, cleaning supplies, textiles, and electronic products. Currently, the database is only expected to cover the use of products regulated under the Danish Chemicals Act.
