China's National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) has solicited comments on two new food-contact substances. The substances and specifications are listed below.

  • Polyethylene (CAS no. 9002-88-4) for use in POM plastics at a maximum use level of 0.3%. The use temperature of materials containing this substance may not exceed 121o C.
  • 2-Propenoic acid, polymer with 1,3-butadiene and ethenyl benzene (CAS no. 25085-39-6) for use in adhesives with a specific migration limit (SMLs) of 6 mg/kg for 2-propenoic acid, ND (DL = 0.01 mg/kg, as 1,3-butadiene). This substance may only be used in pressure-sensitive adhesives for indirect contact with food. In addition, these adhesives may only be hot filled and pasteurized at a temperature of up to 70o C if the time does not exceed two hours or at a temperature of up to 100o C if the time does not exceed 15 minutes. They may also be used for long-term storage at room temperature.
