The Biotechnology Food Labeling Uniformity Act, S.2621, was introduced by Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Jon Tester (D-MT), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and Bernard Sanders (I-VT) on March 2, 2016.
The U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry will consider a bill on February 25, 2016 that would establish a national voluntary labeling standard for bioengineered foods. The bill was introduced by Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts (R-Kan.).
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has requested information and comments on the term "natural" in food labeling and advertising.
