What are the Contact Information Requirements for Food Packaging?

Question

Can food packaging just have a phone number or does it also have to have a complete address? What are the specific requirements?

Answer

Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Section 101.5 states that the label of a food package shall specify the name and place of business of the manufacturer, packer, or distributor in a conspicuous place on the label. In addition to the place of business, the street address, city, state, and zip code must also be listed; however, the street address may be omitted if it is shown in a current city directory or telephone directory. Therefore, at a minimum, you are required to include the city, state and zip code of the place of business, and the entire address if the place of business is not listed in a current city or telephone directory.
