China Announces Draft and Final Approvals for Food-Contact Materials
On October 8, 2018, China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) requested comments on 15 new types of food-related products, including six new resins. The resins are:
- 1,4-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, polymer with hexanedioic acid, 1,4-butanediol and 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylic acid 1,2-anhydride
- Polymer with 2-(chloromethyl) oxirane, 4-4’-methylenebis [2,6-dimethylphenol] and 1,4-benzenediol
- Poly (Bisphenol A-co-epichlorohydrine) glycidyl end-capped, reaction products with styrene, methyl methacrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, acrylic acid, and methacrylic acid partially neutralized with dimethyl ethanol amine
- 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid, polymer with 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid, 1,4-butanediol, 1,2-ethanediol and hexanedioic acid
- Poly (isophorone diisocyanate) reaction products with 2,2-Dimethyl-1,3-propanediol, Diethylene glycol, 1,4-Cyclohexanedimethanol, Isophthalic acid, Fatty acids, C18-unsturated, dimers, hydrogenated and Caprolactam
- 1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid, polymer with 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid, 1,3-dihydro-1,3-dioxo-5-isobenzofurancarboxylic acid, hexanedioic acid, 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol and 2,2’-oxybis [ethanol]
The additives with proposed expanded use scope and use level are:
- Magnesium sulfate
- Bis (3,4-dimethylbenzylidene) sorbitol
- Erucamide
- Calcium stearate
- Zinc stearate
- Pentaerythritol tetra [3-(3.5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) propionate]
- tri (2,4-Ditertrabutyl phenyl) phosphite ester
- 2-Propenoic acid, butyl ester, polymer with 2-ethylhexyl 2-propenoate
The new additive is: Octadecanamide, N,N’-1,2-ethanediylbis-, reaction products with azacyclotridecan-2-one homopolymer and 1-isocyanatooctadecane.
Comments are also being sought for the expanded use of eight food-contact additives. For more details, see CFSA’s website (in Chinese). Comments are due by November 8, 2018.
On September 26, 2018, China’s National Health Commission (NHC) announced the final approval for 14 food-related new products and two new food ingredients. The products included two new types of additives for food-contact materials (1-Propanaminium, N,N,N-trimethyl-3-[(1-oxo-2-propen-1-yl)amino]-, chloride (1:1), polymer with ethenamine and 2-propenamide, hydrochloride and epoxidized linseed oil) and five new resins. The resins are:
- Formaldehyde, reaction products with bisphenol A and butyl alcohol
- 2-Propenoic acid, 2-methyl-, polymer with 1,4-benzenediol, 2-(chloromethyl) oxirane, 2-propenoic acid, 2-methyl-, butyl ester, 2-propenoic acid, 2-methyl-, ethyl ester, ethyl 2-propenoate, 2-propenoic acid, butyl ester and 4,4’ -methylenebis [2,6-dimethylphenol], 2-(dimethylamino) ethanol-quartetnized
- 2-Propenoic acid, 2-methyl-, methyl ester, polymer with ethenylbenzene
- Urea polymer with formldehyde and bisphenol A
- Polymer of isophthalic acid, terephthalic acid, sebacic acid and butane-1,4-diol
