California's Proposition 65 has been reformed to allow business owners who correct certain types of alleged violations within 14 days to pay only a nominal fine of $500; prior to the amendment, business owners could have been subjected to penalties up to $2,500 per day for each violation.

The California Environmental Protection Agency's (Cal/EPA) Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) issued a notice on September 6, 2013, stating that it intends to list methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) as known to the State to cause reproductive toxicity under Proposition 65.

The California Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) now provides information on the status of chemicals it is considering for addition to the state's Proposition 65 list under the authoritative bodies mechanism.

Effective June 22, 2013, California's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) will require warnings for products containing benzophenone identifying the chemical as a known carcinogen to the State of California under the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (also known as Proposition 65). See Cal. Health & Safety Code §§ 25249 et seq. Benzophenone is a chemical frequently used in food packaging materials including inks and dyes.
