China notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures on May 22, 2015, concerning its draft Standard on the General safety requirements for food contact materials and articles, which was developed by the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC). Comments on the Standard are due by July 21, 2015.

On April 25, 2015, China's amended Food Safety Law (FSL) passed by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. The amended law, which some are calling the most stringent food safety law ever passed in China, will enter into force on October 1, 2015. Malaysia has notified the World Trade Organizations of a proposed Draft New Regulation 27B, Food Regulations 1985 (Plastic materials and articles). The draft regulation establishes maximum levels of migration from plastic materials and articles to food of certain metals, as well as provides specific migration limits for a number of other substances used in plastic materials and articles, including acrylonitrile, vinyl chloride, formaldehyde, and others.

Comments of China's draft amendment to the Hygienic Standards for Uses of Additives in Food Containers and Packaging Materials (GB 9685-2008) are due by March 15, 2015. The draft amendment, published by the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) on January 20, 2015, incorporates key revisions to the Standard, such as removing the following use scopes for listed additives: glass, metal, ceramics, and enamel.

The implementing rules and regulations of Republic Act No. 10600, "An Act to Strengthen the Food Safety Regulatory System in the Country to Protect Consumer Health and Facilitate Market Access of Local Food and Food Products, and for Other Purposes," also known as the "Food Safety Act of 2013," were published in the Official Gazette on February 20, 2015.
