Kristine S. Crawford, Ph.D.
Kristine Crawford, Ph.D., is a staff scientist with expertise in test method development and validation. She provides assistance in matters of technical complexity where reliable analytical testing is required to ensure the identity and potency of impurities and functional ingredients in nutritional supplements, natural products, pharmaceutical formulations, and food packaging. Dr. Crawford assists attorneys in the Food and Drug Practice group in determining the safety of polymers and various additives used to manufacture paper and plastic food-contact materials, and in filing Food Contact Notifications to obtain premarket clearances from the FDA.
Prior to joining Keller and Heckman, Dr. Crawford worked in private industry as a senior scientist and project leader in the field of exploratory analytics designing new instrumental methods to isolate, identify, and measure prebiotics and rare carotenoids derived from yeast and algae, and various lipid-soluble antioxidants used to stabilize algal oils. Dr. Crawford earned her Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Maryland, where she accomplished the total synthesis and structural characterization of a metabolite derived from dietary intake of the pro-vitamin A carotenoid gamma-carotene.
