Alisa A. Karlsons
Alisa Karlsons practices food and drug packaging law. She assists domestic and foreign companies, including paper and paperboard, plastic, and additive manufacturers, in establishing compliance of their food-contact materials with U.S. Food and Drug Administration requirements, as well as state level requirements, such as the Model Toxics in Packaging Legislation and California’s Proposition 65. She has extensive experience in assessing compliance of paper packaging materials, in particular, including paper sourced from both virgin and recycled fiber.
Ms. Karlsons also assists companies in establishing the compliance of their packaging materials when used in other jurisdictions, including Canada, the European Union, South America, and China, and is experienced with filing pre-market authorization requests to clear the use of new food-contact materials used in the U.S. and abroad. She also advises trade associations and individual companies on legislative initiatives impacting the regulation of packaging materials.
Prior to attending law school and joining the firm, Ms. Karlsons worked in public affairs consulting in Washington, DC.
Ms. Karlsons is originally from the San Francisco Bay Area. As a first-generation American, she was raised speaking Latvian and is a dual American-Latvian citizen.
