Keller and Heckman Partner Rachida Semail will be one of the speakers at the Recycled Packaging for Food Contact conference in Brussels, Belgium. The title of her presentation is: “Making sense of current EU regulations on food grade packaging materials and the need to integrate with the circular economy objectives.” Other topics to be covered at the conference include testing of NIAS in plastic food contact materials, challenges in using recycled plastic with food, and advanced sorting technology for separation of food grade materials.

Keller and Heckman Associate Rachel Bond will be speaking at The National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers (NAPIM) 2019 Fall Technical Conference on October 15-17, 2019 in Oak Brook, Illinois. The title of her presentation is, “Food-Contact Printing Inks: Comparing the U.S. and EU Regulatory Frameworks.” In addition to providing an overview of the regulation of printing inks in the U.S. and the EU, she will discuss the unique issues faced by the printing ink industry, current regulatory trends, and best practices related to GMP and customer assurance.

Keller and Heckman Partners Rachida Semail and Hazel O’Keeffe will be among the speakers at Smithers’ Global Food Contact 2021 Conference and Pre-Conference Workshop, which will cover key issues facing the global food contact industry. The virtual conference will take place from June 14-16 and the pre-conference workshop will be held on June 8.

The European Food Safety Authority’s (EFSA) updated its administrative guidance to implement new provisions required by the Transparency Regulation (EU) 2019/1381 and are applicable both to applications for new authorizations and modifications of existing authorizations.  (See the PackagingLaw.com article, New EU Transparency Regulation to Apply from March 27, 2021, for more information on this regulation.)

Germany’s Draft Twenty-second Ordinance amending the German Ordinance on Consumer Goods, which establishes limits on the transfer of mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH) from food contact materials (FCMs) made from recycled paper and board, has been notified to the World Trade Organization (WTO) under the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures Agreement.  The Draft is open for comment by the WTO Member States until 21 May 2021.

A regulation on the transparency and sustainability of European Union (EU) risk assessment in the food chain, the Transparency Regulation 2019/1381, will apply from March 27, 2021. This regulation introduces new rules for petitioning the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and amends the EU’s Framework Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004.

Keller and Heckman Partner Rachida Semail will speak on the implementation of the Single-Use Plastics Directive by the European Commission at the Countdown to Single-Use Plastics Ban seminar. This seminar will also include presentations on developments related to single-use plastic product ban in leading member states.
