Mark Boelens, Ph.D. joined Keller and Heckman in 2007.

Dr. Boelens holds a M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, both from the University of Gent (Belgium). Dr. Boelens has extensive experience within the EU chemical industry, and is actively involved in assisting industry on the European REACH chemical control program and on food-contact matters.

His expertise has led to the clearance of various food-contact materials through the European Food Safety Authority, and to the notification of surface biocides and specialty chemicals under the Biocidal Products Directive and the Dangerous Substances Directive. He is actively involved with industry consortia and coalitions, aiming at the development of a sustainable regulatory status for the use of surface biocides in industrial and consumer applications at the EU level. He has participated and played an active role in several industry associations, Including Europur-Euromoulders, ISOPA, CEFIC FCA, and EATP.

Prior to joining Keller and Heckman, Dr. Boelens worked for over six years for Milliken & Co., where he held several positions in technical support, application development and business development for the production and marketing of specialty chemicals, including plastics additives, polymeric colorants, and biocides.

He has over five years of global R&D experience with Shell Chemicals. His responsibilities included thermoset polymers research, process optimization and product development.
