Q. I am trying to find out when it is necessary to print a warning label on a garbage bag itself. We currently have a warning label on the packaging but not sure if it is required on the bag. Some garbage have a warning and some don't. Manufacturing is done in NJ and the product is sold nationally.

A. We are assuming you are referring to suffocation issues for these plastic bags. Five states and two cities require warnings for certain plastic bags with size and thickness dimensions that raise suffocation concerns with young children: California, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, and Virginia, and New York City and Chicago. Currently, Canada also has a suffocation warning law.
